Magnificent Chicago

Sky View

Where can you go to see an entire city from a rooftop.  Chicago, home of the Sears Tower; 110 floors of floor-to-ceiling glass.  At the top, Chicago spreads its winding web of roads at your feet.  Beyond that, your gaze shifts to the gentle swell of Lake Michigan with a myriad of colorful boats moored in the harbor.  On a clear day you can see cities in the neighboring state of Indiana and at night, lights from the Magnificent Mile twinkle in the distance.  You're in the sky, sometimes in clouds and your heart beats fast thinking of the marvels that await you when you reach the bottom again.  Chicago awaits your discovery.

Touring Chicago

There are several ways to experience the excitement of Chicago.  Relax on a Trolley car or a Double-Decker Bus as it takes you on your initial tour.  State Street, the great street, the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue), Old Town, the Gold Coast, and the footpath winding through Millenium Park are just a few of the sights you'll see.

Or you might want to view the city on one of the Ducks gliding through Lake Michigan.  Ride the waves along sandy beaches till you reach Navy Pier where the first thing you'll see is Chicago's Ferris Wheel high in the sky.  Then take the El to Merchandise Mart with its treasure-trove of unique finds the world over.  Visit Water Tower Place, especially at night when lights glitter in the dark sky.

Chicago is one of the most exciting cities in the world.  From its diverse architecture, the Chicago Botanical Gardens, the ever-expanding Lincoln Park Zoo, museums and attractions to its pristine avenues and parks, there is a never-ending supply of things from which to choose.  Number one on places to visit in the United States.

Thanks for answering my request Ladilin. Have to say, when I was looking at where I might want to go, Chicago wasn't one on the list but you have convinced me to add it on my itinerary

Thanks for reading.  So glad you found my hub helpful in planning your itinerary.  In addition to things mentioned, there are dozens of free attractions and things to do.  Just search for 'Chicago, IL' and you'll find plenty of sites full of information, much more than I could list here. For instance, did you know that the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier rises 150' in the air and that Millenium Park has an orchestra shell with 4,000 stationery seats and 7,000 more spaces to sit on the lawn area? It also boasts a piped-in acoustical system overhead that enables everyone to hear the music? And the best thing - all concerts are free. Enjoy Chicago.

A great city! When my husband and I lived in central Wisconsin for 4 years we made it down to Chicago as often as we could. We even joined the Field Museum when the King Tut exhibit was there. As you mentioned, the museums are fantastic!
